Louise Freeman

As a mature student I studied Fine Art under the tutorage of Dave Shepherd and Harvey Hood specialising in Sculpture at Howard Gardens UWIC.  I then went on to study a PGCE in Art & Design and was successful in obtaining a teaching post in Cardiff. It wasn't until a few years later that I began to dabble in ceramics.  I found that clay was the drawing material that I responded to.  The process of sculpting allowed me to explore the fundamental language of art through form, shape, texture and colour.

My passion for art led me to run and manage two Galleries, Quirky Art Ceramics in Ellesmere and Quirky Art Studio Gallery in Llangollen supporting local and professional artists and at the same time developing my own skill base.

Along my artistic journey I found that 'hares' found me and became my speciality and I would often be described as the "hare lady" with customers returning to purchase a friend for their existing quirky hare.

These days I enjoy sculpting a range of ceramics from chickens to figurative forms in my Quirky Shed at the bottom of the garden. I sculpt one-off handmade ceramics as I like that element of one to one individuality. On each sculpture I stamp my logo confirming that it is an original authentic piece.

It is important to me that the spirit and personality of the subject matter connect with the customer.  My work can be described as whimsical but with an element of haunting even though to much surprise to my customers I have never watched 'Watership Down'!

My work can be purchased on the Store Shop or through my Stockists and at local pottery and events.
